STEP 1 CORRECTION MOCK EXAM

SKRINFLATION ISN’T A TREND IT IS A PERMANENT HIT TO YOUR WALLET

STEP 1 SHALL I READ ? listen to the teacher + READ THE CORRECTION IN THE THIRD COLUMN

STEP 2    THE SUMMARY OF THE TEXT

Paragrah 1 line 1 to 5

KEY WORDS

SUMMARY

The text starts with a definition of skrinkflation which is  I QUOTE  LINE 1 …..( je cite)

The text ADDS THAT  ( le texte ajoute que) it is a practice that is RIFE / RAMPANT/ WIDESPREAD…..( répandu)

AS  = because = since companies face soaring production costs  they feel the need to maintain their profits and one of the strategies to do so is Skrinflation.

Paragrah 2 line 6 to 11

Keywords

Why is this strategy any better for companies can be explained by the fact that  it is more DIFFICULT/ CHALLENGING / TRICKY / HARD ( difficile)   for consumers to notice the difference in size to a product than a rise in price.

Paragrah 3 line 12 to 22

Keywords

This tactic usually appears in time of Inflation which means  when prices are skyrocketing.

STILL / HOWEVER/ AND YET/ NEVERTHELESS  (cependant)clients observe that even after a decrease in inflation  the quantity ad the prices are not  LOWERED.( abaissé)

We might even INFER / DEDUCE ( déduire)  that GREEDFLATION  is then COMMON ( commun/ banal)  which means that companies wish to MAXIMISE ( maximiser)  their profits AGAINST THE CONSUMERS’ INTEREST.( contre l intérêt des consommateurs)

To justify their new prices companies resort to another TACTIC  ( une tactique) which is the creation of a BRAND NEW PRODUCT  ( un produit tout neuf) at the same increased price TAG.( l étiquette du prix/ le prix)

Another strategy is to ENLARGE( grandit)   the size of the packet which gives the false impression that the consumer will buy more of the product  but instead the product is just SLIGHTLY( légérement)  increased.

STEP 4

A)   SOLUTIONS

1.    Solutions against skrinflation : greedflation and skimpflation

The customers should either boycott the product or buy another brand.

They had better  also organise campaigns to denounce that new phenomenon.

Another possibility would be to stop buying junk food which is often the products INVOLVED ( impliqué)  in these strategies and  consume fresher, better and more natural food ITEMS.( objects)

Finally governments ought to get INVOLVED  and LEGISLATE ( légiférer)  to control these unfair practices.

B)MY OPINION

1. what type of food do i like ?

2. have you noticed such practices in the products that you buy ?

3. what have you decided to do in that case ?

5. what do you think of junkfood ?

STEP 5 CONCLUSION

Let me conclude by saying that the issue that we TACKLED(traité de)  today is CRUCIAL  because people need to feed themselves. But also SINCE  it AFFECTS  their health as we can NOTICE ( remarquer)  that obesity is SURGING  ( augmenter) in the world because more and more people consume JUNK FOOD  and THUS ( donc)  we might wonder what we should do to stop this PLAGUE/ PANDEMIC /DISEASE( maladie)
