Ny symbolises the american dream
Marilyn comes to mind because she started from nothing and yet she became a star so she fulfilled her dream and she av=chieved her goal of success .
On the other hand , she committed suicide which shows the other dark side of the American dream
The american dream brings to mind (bring to mind = évoquer) the statue of liberty and the skyscrappers ( les grattes ciel ) in New York.
Moreover it is a belief that anyone can become rich no matter ( peu importe) their background = their social origins

Indeed the statue of liberty embodies liberty or freedom and success.
The migrants who were going to America had a dream as they wanted to go from rags to riches and become prosperous = rich = wealth to guarantee a better future to their children.
They wanted to have the righ to express themselves and thus the freedom of speech.
As a matter of fact the American dream is the belief that everyone has equal opportunities and that no dream is out of reach.
