STEP 1 RECAP  ON THE COWBOY PICTURE

1.    ImagiNe his personality

2.    What is the colour of his skin ?

3.    Where does he live ?

4.    What kind of jobs does he do ?

5.    Is it a painful job ?

6.    Are there women doing this type of job ?

7.    WHAT KIND OF CLOTHES IS HE WEARING ?

So to sum up when you think of a cowboy what kind of adjectives would you use ?

 

 

The cowboys are supposed to be rough = tough/ brave = courageous  as they are doing a painful job.

They raise cows and control the herd ( le troupeau )

They are usually light –skinned or slightly ( légèrement) tanned ( bronzé) because they work outside . Besides there are no coloured person working as a cowboy .

They are regarded as ( be regarded as = be considered as ) fearless and hardworking  and helpful.

They wear clothes that are sturdy ( résistant) because they have to last ( last = durer)

There are very few women working as cowboys because it is a macho world

 

STEP 2 CONTRAST  WITH THIS PICTURE

: differences and similarities

UNLIKELY COWBOY  » what makes him so different from regular cowboys ?

What message does he want to convey ? what myths does he want to debunk  + UPROOT

He looks more like a girl and he wants to adopt the look but not the function

He is using stereotypes by wearing pinks

He means to say that black people used to be barred ( to be barred from = etre empéché de )  from being cowboys.

He wants to debunk all the stereotypes we have about women and gay men  by saying that they can become cowboys as well.

He wishes to say that anyone can be as rough and brave as regular cowboys.
