A growing number of children are becoming obese as young as four or five years old, NHS figures have shown, Obesity is rising among children both in their first and last years at primary school,

Overall, 9.3% of four- and five-year-olds in primary reception class in England in 2015-16 were classed as obese, up from 9.1% the previous year, according to the national child measurement programme (NCMP).

The number of obese 10- and 11-year-olds in their last primary school year also rose from 19.1% to 19.8% last year – nearly one in five.

More boys are dangerously overweight than girls.

STEP 2 YOU ARE AN ADVISER TO PRESIDENT TRUMP. THE POPULATION IS GETTING FATTER AND OBESITY IS RIFE.

1.    WHY IS THAT A PROBLEM ?

2.    WHAT SOLUTIONS COULD WE SUGGEST ?

STEP 3   INNOVATIVE SOLUTION :READ THE SOLUTION GIVEN TO YOU AND PRESENT IT TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF YOUR GROUP

PARTNER A  THE FOOD  LABELLING

1)where can you find this info in your view ?

you can find this food labelling on packages

2)What do they look like ?

they look like labels ( a label = une étiquette)

3) Do you think they are efficient to help you control your diet and should we adopt this system in France ?

in my view they are practical  because they are a clear indication of the composition of the products that you are eating.

4)In your opinion who is against this system and why ?

in my view some manufacturers of ultra processed products must be against this labelling because they might discourage some consumers to buy their products

PARTNER B

Calorie labelling ( a label = une etiquette) on menus to be introduced in cafes, restaurants and takeaways

Government wants to  tackle (tackle = deal with)  obesity and improve ( = better)  the nation’s health

  • Large businesses will be required to display calorie information on menus and food labels from April 2022
  • Rules will help the public to make healthier choices when eating out

the calory labelling indicates the number of calories contained in a product. They appear at the back of a package.

They can help consumers make an educated choice as to what they want to consume. Thus they can help them lose weight and eat a more balanced diet.

PARTNER C THE SUGAR TAX ( a tax = un impot)

Tax and regulate sugar like alcohol and tobacco, urge scientists

Sugar is as toxic to the liver as alcohol and is at the root of( at the root of = at the origin of ) obesity and certain types of liver disease ( = an illness ) , claim US scientists

Sugar should be regulated in the same way as alcohol and tobacco because its increasing use in processed foods ( nourritures industrielles)  poses a significant danger to public health, according to a group of scientists. They advocate = (advise ) controlling sales to children under 17 and taxing sugary foods.

Sugar induces high blood pressure, diabetes and accelerated ageing.

a sugar tax is a tax imposed on sugary products to encourage people to buy less sugary products.Indeed if the price is increased because of the tax fewer people will purchase = buy them.

PARTNER D: BOGOF ( Buy one get one free)  ban would be  more effective than sugar tax in reducing soft drink / fizzy drinks consumption ( the consumption = consommation)

Banning promotions, like 'buy one get one free' - BOGOF, on soft drinks could be more effective than the 'sugar tax' in reducing consumption of sugary drinks according to new research from the University of Aberdeen's Rowett Institute.

In the first ever study to compare the impact of the soft drinks levy( = tax) that was introduced in Scotland/UK in 2018, with a ban on price promotions, spending on sugary drinks dropped by 35.8% following a ban on promotions, compared to an only 1.4% reduction with the levy.

The resulting drop in sugar consumption, the researchers report, would translate into a 0.85kg drop in weight over a year, compared to 0.36kg with the sugar tax.

Some supermarkets use promotions, discounts and BOGOF to push people to buy more and thus consume and eat more. Thus some governments suggest a ban on such promotions to prevent people from buying too many products and thus eat more.

STEP 4 so what should we do ? WHICH SOLUTION IS THE BEST IN YOUR OPINION ?

in my viewpoint,…………..

as far as I am concerned ,……………..
