if i remember correctly there were forest fires while someone was camping
i have a vague recollection of floodings
still= however ( cependant) people were behaving ( behave= se comporter)normally as if nothing was happeneing so the author is telling us to stop ignoring the problem/ stop burrying our heads in the sand because it jeopardizes= puts in danger our life
