Task: computers
Word of the day : what is your most precious/ treasured/ cherished belonging/ possession?
WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRECIOUS POSSESSION?
The object I cherish the most is my computer.
DESCRIBING A PICTURE
I can notice a woman with wavy and fairly long hair. She is stuck / trapped/caught inside a computer
She seems to be tied up with wires / entangled in wires
She is putting her hands forward and banging on the screen, crying for help to be let out/ to be allowed to escape in a desperate attempt at getting out.
This picture might symbolize/represent/embody/ epitomize/ embody the addiction of some people for computers. She seems to be a slave to the machine. It encroaches on her daily life as she spends hours on the computer and thus has given up a normal life.
Thanks to this document, computers appear more as a threat than as a help.it seems to jeopardize/ endanger/ threaten our future and our lives as the woman looks scary/ frightened/alarmed/panicked.
DESCRIBING ANOTHER PICTURE
this cover from Newsweek reminds me of the killing of 13 students by two fellow students at columbine highschool in colorado in 1999.They committed this crime to avenge themselves on the students who had bullied/ taunted (taunt= railler) them. They had difficulty socializing with people.they find it difficult to fit in/ get along with people.
They used computers to voice their anger and to find the means and the tools and weapons to commit their crime/implement their plan and set up their plot.
The internet might have given them access to forbidden information and influence them towards violence and pushed them over the edge ( les pousser au bord du rouleau)
A DEBATE : the computer: a positive or a negative thing.
