2) Heroes
a)Remember the definition of a hero.What is a hero?
Someone who did a remarkable act of courage or strength and thus might be considered as a remarkable= extraordinary /amazing/ unique individual who stands out of the crowd.= outstanding and thus deserves our admiration/ who is thus praiseworthy.

3)CNN Heroes : a video

 neighbours, friends, Mr nobody, ordinary people;
 you nominate them on the CNN website.
 everyone generous enough to help others;
 they want to change the world

4)Presentation of two more heroes.


Jordan Thomas :
He lost his legs in a boat accident because of the propellers;His family came from a well-off family and thus they could efford to pay for protheses.
He went to hospital and found out that hundreds of kids were not so lucky .The problem was too fold.First kids outgrown their protheses and the social security does not cover for the change of legs.Second, the amount of money given covers only for a stamp and not for an artifical leg equipped with a knee.Therefore all these kids cannot run or play with other kids their age.
Jordan thus decided to create a charity to collect money to pay for artificiel legs to other victims but also whose aim would be to put forward a law to change the coverage granted by the social security.


Derrick :
He is a teacher and he think he can change the world through music .he resides in Louisiana who had to face such a dreadful natural catastrophe in ......... that destroyed half of the city.Since then the crime rate has doubled and youth are often caught in a cycle of violence.
Derrick has thus decided to prevent these kids from roaming the streets of the city and becoming an easy prey for gangs by enrolling them into his band.
He thus through music teaches them discipline and self- respect and keep them out of trouble.

THE FINAL HERO
Braud Blaser. He is a contractor who went to Irak to be hired.There he discovered a completly different reality.Through one of his friends who is a doctor in the army, he found out that what the iraki people mostly needed were wheelchairs for kids.
Indeed with such basic instrument most of the crippled kids become too heavy to be carried about and thus are left alone in a room.
Therefore Braud created a charity who has delievered more than ..... wheelchairs to kids in Irak.
Now without a job , he still remains in the country because as he says « I have become their voice. »

WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO BECOME HEROES?WHAT IS THEIR MOTIVATION?
People want to become heroes because :
- they want to help others = out of love for others;
 they want to be forgiven for a past deed = to redeem (=se racheter) themselves;
 they want to compensate for a misdeed = a past wrongdoing
 in order to give a meaning to their life;
 their purpose might be to make history, to have their names remembered;
 out of pride;
 their goal is to tell the world about a problem that should be solved;
 they mean to carry on remembering someone (= to pay hommage to someone = to pay tribute);
 they wish to be seen as role models, they wish people to follow their example, to walk in their footsteps;
 their purpose is to save their soul;
 they mean to make the world a better place, to redress wrongs in the world;
 they want to change people's mentalities;
 they love grabbing attention = to seek people's attention


why does CNN make this show ?because :
- they want to improve the viewing rates;
 in order to make money, benefits;
 to face the threat of terrorism;
 to compensate for the credit crunch;
 they believe that everyone could become a hero if he puts his heart into it;
 they are proud of their country;
 they wish to be a role model like any Americans who believe they should redress for the evils in the world.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUPERHERO AND A HERO?
As opposed to a hero, a superhero has superpowers but most of all it is a work of fiction.

Real life superheroes :
 they have created their own persona;
 wear a costume;
 they act under a disguise;
What is their motivation?/ their drift / what spurs them?
 they want to become famous;
 THEY ARE SPURRED by their desire to stop crimes;
 They are led by their wish to inspire children;
 Their motivation come from their will to help their community;
 Their acts are triggered by their dream of fulfilling a long-term ambition or dream, to make a dream come true;
