Obama's speech

Paragraph1
1.He is refering to his entering the race

2.He is black, he is young, he has no experience, he is unknown. He was brought up by his grandmother and his father was a muslim.
So his opponent and adeversaries charge him with being inexperienced as well as a threat to the nation as he has links with the terrorist or more precisely arabic areas.

3.The journey which will take him to the general election. He is black and yet he was selected so he achieved two miracles.

4.He wants to catch the public's attention. He intends to thank people and to make them believe they are the one in charge. He plans on making people believe they are equals./ they are on an equal footing (pied d'égalité)

Paragraph2
1.He blames the previous administration. He implies G.Bush was not up to the task. He stresses the need to improve things

2.He wants to thank the persons who allowed him to be there.
A motive=a secret motive. He wishes to involve people.
he aims at making tem feel included in the political process.

Paragraph3
1.His aim is to accentuate geographical differences. His goal is to convey the idea that he is more concerned by national matters and thus knows his country like the back of his hand (comme les 5 doigts de la main)

2.He aims at tricking them into believing that they are in charge/have a say in the matter .

What are your plans for the future as far as jobs/love/ family and money are concerned? (rebrassage notion INTENTION/AIM)

HOMEWORK
Prepare your answer to the questions dealing with paragraph 4 to 14.
Next session, you will have the opportunity to compare your ideas with mine on these paragraphs .Then we will complete our study of the end of the text.
I have already given you my plan at the back of the paper with the final questions.
I will then ask each group to write down one part of this plan.Then each group will be asked to express themselves in front of the class for 3 minutes and will be marked at the end of this performance.
